This hearing has the making of an entertaining afternoon written all over it. Hugh Sisley, Roosevelt’s controversial land owner, will be contesting his land use code violations with the Office of the Hearing Examiner. According to a March article in the Seattle Times;

Sisley is the poster child for a proposal unveiled Thursday by Mayor Greg Nickels to ratchet up fines against landlords with properties in disrepair.

However, what really concerns the Roosevelt neighborhood is Sisley’s proposed 10 story ‘urban village’ that will surround the upcoming transit station in Roosevelt. Although the neighborhood has to deal with this uncertainty, they should be okay in the long run since they are one of the better organized community groups in Seattle and quite honestly, since there is such a poor relationship between Sisley and the city I doubt he’ll get the variance he wants.

Here’s a project that is bound to cause a whole bunch of controversy. Hugh Sisley, a land owner in Roosevelt will be raizing properties that have been described as ’slums’ and develop high-density properties instead. Given the track record of their property management in Roosevelt, and their plan to continue being involved with these properties, get ready for a big fight. Especially worrisome to neighbors is a feeling that the developers will construct buildings over 4 stories tall.
