Seattle’s a smart city, why do we do so many dumb things?

Multi-family code rendering presentation

September 28th, 2009 · 4 Comments

When I get a free 82 minutes, I’d like to check this online video out, it’s a recap of a presentation to the Planing, Land Use and Neighborhoods Committee of the city council.

David Neiman, of Neiman Architects, provides this context for the presentations:

This fall I signed a contract with the city of Seattle to lead a group of local architects to produce a study of the proposed multi-family code update. We were asked to take some small infill sites & use the new proposed code to show examples of both the best the worst outcomes. Thursday night I presented our study “White Hat / Black Hat” to the Council. For land-use junkies, insomniacs and the merely curious, the meeting can be seen on the Seattle Channel at http://www.seattlechannel.org/videos/video.asp?ID=2280942. My portion of the presentation begins at 31:30.

Smart neighborhoods might benefit from some tools of sociocracy. Perhaps it is time to rethink what people power could mean.

Co-ops and community supported credit unions to revitalize home turfs could be part of the solution. Sustainable economics, social justice and environment are all local as well as global and its easier/smarter to start where one lives!
With McGinn in as mayor just maybe some real changes are on the way.

Greg please contact me, i need a letter about fashionRIP project for a scholarship.
