Future concept - crosswalks with virtual plasma laser traffic lights

Sure it’s probably not feasible (those wacky laws of physics)…but hey, why let something like that buzzkill a pretty interesting concept for pedestrian safety.

Kill any and all buzz around this kind of money drain fantasy. The chronically neglected parts of the city such as where I live in North Delridge, as well as the Rainier Valley and North of 85th that don’t have basic sidewalks or curbing it should be heresy to even talk about some plasma screen doo-dad fantasy. I would say the same goes for the DuraTherm crosswalks that have popped up in a few areas. Moving beyond the basics to raingardens/swales/sidewalks on city streets that lack a sidewalk or curb is something I am all for, but otherwise I think it best to stick to the basics first, please.

Problems:
1. As you mention, it’s not possible. Lasers aren’t visible in the air, and they’d just be red lines if they were.
2. Would this make people more safe? Or would it hide pedestrians from view, making cars unsure when they can make a slow right turn and when they can’t?

What can I say, I’m a sucker for technology (and calzones). :)
