I’m not an architect, nor am I an urban planner, just someone who got into this land use activism game by fighting against some proposed development near my house. Unfortunately for me though, when it comes to critiquing designs, I simply don’t have that quiver of architectural knowledge needed to deliver just that right zinger to effortlessly deflate the ’hot air’ out of the firm who designed a flawed building. (Of couse, I do have a disturbingly full quiver of pop-cultural references which I pull from in order to shoot with cheerful abandon- see my Project Runway critique.)
Anyway, that’s why I really like the hugeasscity blog. They’ve got this skill and they don’t abuse it. In addition to pointing out the medicore creampuffs, they also talk about what works and what is needed to help us become the sustainable city we keep telling ourselves we are.
