Rental car taxes for Flexcar? Is Metro’s vanpool next?

Flexcar is a fairly successful car sharing program in Seattle that lets users borrow cars for short periods all throughout the city. For those who don’t want to own a car, but still need a car every once in awhile for an errand or trip, Flexcar is a terrific option. However, it seems like the state’s Dept of Revenue also is looking at Flexcar as a rental car company, and subjecting it to rental car taxes (the ones aimed at tourists and designed to pay off things like Safeco Field). Anyway, I have a strong feeling that this loophole will get closed (or should I say get opened?) and local politicians will jump on the opportunity to help Flexcar
